I received email messges from Gene Dean and Brian Owen advising me that they were planning a cross country adventure to Stumler's on Saturday, November 3rd. I thought it was a great idea and forwarded the message to my friends Lee Creech and Kenny Downard. Saturday morning was clear, cool, and calm, the perfect day for a cross country flight and lunch with friends. The flight was 161.4 miles with an average speed of 54.2 mph, actual flight time 2 hours, 58 minutes, and 45 seconds. |
Kenny Downard in his Challenger, and Lee Creech in is Kolb Firestar plotted an intersecting flight path (shown in lavender on the track map above). And, we were on our way. |
Kenny on the left and Lee in front of my trike. Lee's is the black Kolb, and Kenny's is the white Challenger. |
Me on the left and Kenny. |

John Mathis arriving from Pope Field. |
Gene Dean and his helmet cam! |
Ron Davis arriving in his Quantum. |
Richard Wright landing his Excalibur, and Mark Nagi back taxiing his Quantum 912. |
Brian Owen, Dave Sweeney, and Linda Gibson arrived later from Shawnee Field, Bloomfield, In. |
Lee had to return directly to Frankfort from Stumler's and Brian, Dave, and Linda flew directly back to Bloomfield. The rest of us flew to Scottsburg, and from there the Indiana crew flew to their home fields. Kenny and I flew to Barry Brown's Crawdaddy Landing in Carrollton, Ky. and had a nice visit with Barry and his son Brent. Then on to Bald Knob Aerodrome. What a wonderful day of flying. |
