BUG Flyin July 20, 2002. The only thing warmer than the weather was the hospitality of our hosts, Barry and Patsy Brown. Thank you very much for allowing us to use your wonderful airstrip and furnishing a wonderful meal, air conditioning, and most of all your friendship. The BUGs. |
Crawdaddy Landing July 20, 2002 |
It's 0730 and I am ready to go, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Gerald Gilpin in his Phantom and Larry Scott in his Quicksilver GT400. |
Gerald lands and his brightly colored Phantom adds a splash of color to the leaden, gray skies. A brief shower erupted shortly before his arrival and really added to the discomfort factor. It was already 74 degrees and 94% humidity! |
Larry Scott arrives in his White, Quicksilver GT400. A perfect touchdown, right on the threshhold! A 10! |
After Larry and Gerald arrive and top off with fuel, and a short rest, we are off to Crawdaddy Landing for a fun day! |
At Barry Brown's Crawdaddy Landing the first of the flightline. Jerry Pridemore's Jetwing, a Challenger from New Albany, IN, another Challenger from Scottsburg, IN, Lee Creech's Kolb Firestar II, and my trike a Pegasus Quantum 15. |
Larry Scott Landing at Crawdaddy Landing. |
Jerry Pridemore taking off in his trike! Spectacular climb! |
Barry thinks of everything, including furnish a tow motor to transport aircraft! Alexsejo captaining the tow! |
Adding to the flightline. My trike, Jim Price's Quantum HKS, Lee's Kolb, Larry's Quicksilver, Gerald's Phantom, and Dave Hempy's Nike Trike. |

Barry and Patsy treated us royally as usual and made sure that everyone was well fed and content. Kenny Downard and friends brought their RC flying toys to entertain us during the heat and bumps of midday. We swapped stories and talked about the newest and coming additions to light aircraft flying and of course sport pilot. We discussed the next BUG event which is a mass flyin to the Frankfort, Ky., Capital City Airport, on August 10th. We will meet and stage at Paul Huber's Seldom Scene Airport between 0800 and 0900 that morning and fly the short distance to the Frankfort airport en masse. It should be a hoot! Our next BUG sponsored flyin at Arnold's Aiport (36KY) outside Springfield, Ky. August 17th. Then Lee Creech and I flew to Lee Bottom, returned to Crawdaddy Landing and met a new friend Bob Brocious and his son Kory. Bob has almost completed a Kolb Mark III, and is constructing his own airstrip, Tenacity. |

Bob invited us to fly the 6.5 miles or so to his strip and see his Kolb project. Of course we had to do this, another strip to fly to is too good to miss! And, we would be the first to land there! Something I didn't do on my own strip! Dave Hempy has that honor! He landed there before it was a strip, it was just a ridge waiting to become a strip. |
This is Lee's Kolb and my Pegasus Trike at the newly christened Tenacity airfield. |
Lee taking off from Bob's airfield while Kory watches. Me taking off after waiting for Lee's vortices to subside. |
Lee decided to fly straight to his home airfield, Miles Field, while I decided to return to Crawdaddy and see if Gerald and Larry wanted to fly to my strip together. When I arrived at Barry's I realized that they had already departed and were well on their way to my strip. So, I did not stop my landing roll and took off for home after a low flyby and waves at Crawdaddy Landing. I got caught in a light rain shower just as I arrived at my strip. I will include the narratives from some of the adventures of our other flyin participants as in a Word document at the end of this page. |
Below is an actual GPS generated track of my flight paths for the day. I flew 138 miles with a total in air time of 2 hours and 34 minutes. What a really terrific day! |
I finally got "roundtuit" and here are some images of Bob's project, a Kolb Mark III. Nice plane Bob! |
