August 10, 2002, Capital City Airport Day |
We had been planning on having a good BUG turnout for this event as we had been expressely invited to attend by the airport management. We had hoped to fly en masse from Paul Huber's Seldom Scene Airfield to the airport. Dorothy and Gene flew their Pegasus trike from Franklin, Indiana, Jerry Pridemore his Jetwing trike from Louisville, Winston, his Kolb Firestarr II from Paris, Lee Creech, his Kolb Firestar II from Miles Field, Dave Hempy, his Nike Trike from Cynthiana, Carl and Cathy Cummins, their Taylorcraft from Owen County, and Paula and I, our Pegasus trike from Bald Knob. There were also two gyros from the BURPS, and a lot of GA aircraft and spectators. We arrived about 9:15 and there was already a good crowd there. We lasted until about 12:30 when we were all hot, tired, and talked out. It seemed everyone wanted to know about what a trike was! |

Jerry Pridemore on a left downwind leg for 24 at Capital City Airport. Notice the state Capitol in front, and to the left of Jerry's trike. |
C-130 low flyby. The pilot was very interested in our trikes. |
Skydiver with the American flag. Note the Cessna on the taxiway. There was also a Stearman landing not visible in the image. The jumper's landing target was inbetween the active runway and the taxiway! |
The Stearman was giving rides. |
The BURPS were represented with their gyorcopters. |

Dorothy after lunch at La Casa Fiesta! We're having fun now! |
Sunday, the 11th, a bittersweet flight. Dorothy and Gene over our place on their way home to Franklin, Indiana. We flew part of the way with them. The original flight plan was to Scottsburg, Indiana, but the weather started closing in and Paula and I opted to return home about 25 miles out of Frankfort. Gene is a bad weather magnet! We had a lot of fun and a good visit. |
This image was taken by Cathy Cummins shortly after our arrival. |
